Living along the waters of Ba Be - Mr Linh's Adventures
For the more active, kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding are great options!
Explore the lake at your own pace, weave through the mountains, and even into small caves. Kayaking is particularly great for kids: they can paddle whenever they want, take breaks on the banks, and enjoy the scenery. It's a fun and eco-friendly activity that always makes a splash!
And when it's hot, the calm waters of the lake are an invitation to swim, a truly refreshing moment.
At sunset, you can even observe (or participate in!) traditional fishing with the Tay ethnic group. It's a peaceful and immersive activity to connect with the local culture.

Off the beaten path: hiking and biking
Ba Be National Park is also a hiker's paradise!
There are marked trails for all levels, even toddlers carried in slings or baby carriers will find something to enjoy. You'll get spectacular views and discover incredibly rich fauna and flora. The park is a true sanctuary: it is home to 1268 animal and plant species, including pangolins, flying squirrels, and even European otters! For families, the trails are easy and accessible. Remember to choose flat, well-marked paths with points of interest like waterfalls or caves to keep the children motivated.
You can also spend a few hours exploring the ethnic villages of Tay, H'mong, and Dao, through magnificent landscapes of terraced rice fields and jade-colored mountains.
The park also hides many caves to explore!
Puong Cave is a natural tunnel crossed by the Nang River, accessible by boat. And Hua Ma Cave, a little further from the lake, will dazzle you with its limestone formations and mystical atmosphere. The entrance costs 25,000 VND per person. Be aware that you have to climb about 400 steps to reach it, a fun challenge for older kids! Or not...
Around the lake, shaded roads await you for family bike rides through fields and small villages. Bike rental is super easy and inexpensive, and you can adapt the routes to your desires and your children's level.

Whether on foot, by bike, or by boat, discovering these villages is a rich cultural immersion where children can observe local life and even traditional fishing. And for a truly authentic experience, why not spend a night in a traditional Tay house? It's an unforgettable experience for the whole family, with the possibility of attending folk shows, traditional songs, and dances.
The flavors of Ba Be
Local cuisine is another reason to extend your stay in Ba Be. Homestays are the best place to discover it, often offering incredible family dinners with many delicious homemade dishes.
Planning your family adventure in Ba Be
The best time to discover Ba Be is the dry season, generally from November to April. More precisely, from February to April, March to May, or from September to November. The weather is very pleasant with moderate temperatures (between 15°C and 25°C in the dry season, and 25-30°C from February to April) and little rain, perfect for enjoying outdoor activities! The rainy season (from May to September/October) can make some trails a bit muddy and slippery. But it's also at this time that waterfalls, like Dau Dang, are most impressive due to increased water flow. It's up to you to decide!
