The Ba Be National Park, area and boundaries

The Ba Be National Park (Vietnamese: Vườn quốc gia Ba Bể) is an exceptional karst ecosystem located in the heart of Bac Kan province, in the mountainous region of northeastern Vietnam. This is where the Ba Be National Park extends, a territory of exceptional ecological richness, sculpted by unique karst terrain. For travelers preparing to discover its wonders, understanding the extent of this park and the boundaries that define it is a key element for a successful immersion.

Area of Ba Be National Park

Ba Be National Park showcases the richness of its biodiversity over approximately 7,610 hectares, a little over 76 square kilometers. This generous area encompasses a mosaic of landscapes with wild and pristine beauty. At its core, the famous Ba Be Lakes shimmer, three interconnected freshwater lakes winding for nearly eight kilometers, offering peaceful and majestic panoramas. However, the park's allure doesn't stop there. Thick green forests cover the limestone mountain slopes, while rivers, including the vital Nang River, sculpt the landscape and feed the lakes, creating an ecosystem of rare complexity.

Geographical Boundaries of Ba Be National Park

The boundaries of this natural sanctuary are well established, outlining a specific area within the Ba Be district, with some extensions into neighboring districts. To the north, there is a natural barrier formed by a chain of limestone mountains and dense forests, marking a separation from less protected lands. To the east, the park meets mountainous reliefs and valleys, with the winding Nang River nearby, resembling a silver thread. Towards the south, the landscape continues with mountains and forests, extending to areas where human presence, through agriculture and villages, becomes more visible. Finally, to the west, it is primarily the lakes themselves (Pe Leng Lake, Pe Lu Lake, and Pe Lam Lake), surrounded by protective mountains, that define the border, with the Ta Han River feeding into Ba Be Lake.

For your information, the park is administratively located in the following communes of the Ba Be district (Bac Kan province):
  • Nam Mau Commune (where the visitor center and most tourist facilities are located)
  • Khang Ninh Commune
  • Cao Thuong Commune
  • Quang Khe Commune
  • Yen Duong Commune
  • Some parts of neighboring communes may also be included in the park's buffer zone.
