Mr Linh has had a
Very Big Adventure and has discovered a huge cave in Hoang Tri Commune, in Ba Be District in the north of Vietnam. Although there are several huge caves in Central Vietnam, this is a major discovery in the north and another great reason to visit Ba Be National Park, which is a area of limestone karsts. Any visitors will feel that they are true explorers as nothing in the cave has yet been documented by geologists. The cave is 3-5 km in length and rises to a height of 40 metres. The water course comes from two different sources which meet at a junction. One stream is about 1.5 km and the other 2-4 km. Further exploration is needed to establish this. There are the most incredible rock formations, many stalagmites and stalactites, and huge stone columns, with unbelievable shapes and colours. There are bats, and other insects and also plants, so plenty to interest the naturalist. The entrance to the cave is in the middle of the mountains and well concealed by the jungle, so was very difficult to discover.

Cave entrance from inside
The first 200 meters from cave entrance where you can see many stalactites
After 300 meters we meet a stream
Underwater passageway
Next 200 meters we meet a waterfall, the water course comes from two different sources which meet at this junction
Water spider net on the cave celling
Upstream Lo Mo continues for 200m through areas of rock collapse
A small passage entering the Lo Mo streamway can be followed up to another cave that we haven't discovered yet.
A high-level passage opens about 40m above with a huge column
Another narrow passage takes you to the backside of Lo Mo
Water drips from the ceiling of Lo Mo, this part is ended by wall rock with 1500 meters from the entrance and believe that after the wall is another stream
Upstream leads after 400m from waterfall to a sump, we believe this water flows from other stream
After the sump, we couldn't believe our eyes!
Continues for 200m through areas of rock collapse
The streamway continues underneath for a further 300m to an upstream sump and a stream which disappears into rocks on the surface
Continue for 350 meters follow the stream is another wall rock. We decided to stop!
