Day 1: Hanoi - Vu Linh
Day 2: Vu Linh - Ba Be National park

Day 1
Hanoi - Vu Linh, 180 km, 5hr ride

Leaving Hanoi and breaking out of the delta plains, we pass through endless limestone karst scenery and extensive farming lands comprising a sea of paddy fields split by tree-lined roads. Lunch in Viet Tri town before arriving in Vu Linh in the late afternoon, where we stay overnight with friends of the Dao minority in a traditional stilt house.

Day 2
Vu Linh - Ba Be National park, 200km 7hr ride

For the second day, we have two options: The first takes us around the very end of the Song Gam mountain range, enjoying good riding on winding mountain roads, while the other crosses over the very end of the range and takes us through untarnished rain forest on challenging, rocky roads. With either option we’ll reach Tuyen Quang and then continue on sealed roads through renowned tea-growing areas, where the hillsides are literally covered in plantations. From here it’s a short ride to the edge of Ba Be Lake, where you’ll stay overnight at a home-stay with a Tay family.

Day 3
Ba Be - Quang Hoa 170km 6hr ride
Northeast Vietnam Easy Ride, Lang Son
We leave Ba Be by a fantastic mountainous road, leading us along scattered high limestone formations and heavily forested hills. Further north is Cao Bang province, a remote area on the border with China. Cao Bang is sparsely populated, but it has several ethnic communities in villages hardly affected by tourism. Cao Bang is famous for its graceful mountains, grottos and streams. We arrive in Quang Uyen in the late afternoon, and will stay overnight in a family house of the Nung people.

Day 4
Quang Hoa - Lang Son. 160km 5 hr ride
Northeast Vietnam Easy Ride, Nung village in Cao Bang
Today we travel back in time as we go back to Colonial Indochina by driving the famous Colonial Road No. 4, where we pass villages like Dong Khe and That Khe. This place is well-known for its countless bloody fights during the 1950s between Viet Minh and the French Forces. In the late afternoon, we arrive in Lang Son city and discover the central market. This market offers a diverse range of Chinese products as Lang Son is the gateway between China and Vietnam. Before checking in at our hotel in Lang Son, we make an interesting visit to the Tam Thanh and Nhi Thanh grottos.

Day 5
Lang Son - Ha Long Bay.180km 4hr ride
Northeast Vietnam Easy Ride, Halong bay
Today we ride to Halong bay through the lush vegetation of the Red River Delta. Arriving in Ha Long at the pier we’ll check-in and board our boat for a stunning cruise amongst towering limestone formations. Lunch will be served on board and the cruise will take you to exotic islets such as Dog Islet, Incense Urn, Sail, Fighting Cocks, all named for their peculiar shapes. Once the cruise is over we return to Halong City for an overnight stay at our hotel.

Day 6
Ha Long Bay - Hanoi, 170km 4hr ride

If we rise early we can catch the sunrise over the gorgeous bay, before getting back on our bikes for the drive back to Hanoi, arriving in the capital around 5pm.
